I preordered the book and am already half way through it! It is eerily close to the relationship that my mother and I have. I so enjoy the way you weave a story and the use of words within it. Thank you !
Received 'The Rooted Woman Oracle: A 53-Card Deck and Guidebook' a few days earlier than expected, on the Eve of the Feast Day of Brigid! As Goddess, Abbess, and Saint, She's now in Her second year of official recognition as 'the Matron Saint' of Ireland (both Eire and the North).
For me, it was love at first touch and first sight of the Deck, a wondrous sense of deep connection to its very energy as an evocative 'object', an agent now beginning its companionship with elderwoman- me.
I promptly invited my my closest woman friend to accept a gift copy from me. She was thrilled, feeling its timing apt as can be in her 18-month journey so far of widowhood. Since she's new to oracles, I'm Letting Her Be whilst she explores her own Rooted Woman guidebook and deck. Meantime, its deep delight for me: discovering and rejoicing in my first few magickal interactions with mine. Between my deck and me, there's a subtly palpable glow and hum. Truly as Sharon says herself, this Oracle is a thing of beauty, in all its ways. SB's text and HW's art dance, swim, leap, run, dive, and sing together: wow. (Yup -- Submitted a review a few days ago to amazon canada. )
I've been reading Angela Slatter for many years and am a fan, but I can also think of many wonderful prose stylists working in spec fic and I disagree that she is an exception. She's working within a rich tradition. Robin Hobb, Andrew Michael Hurley, Naomi Novik (in some of her works more than others) Susanna Clarke, Priya Sharma, Steph Swainston, Helen Marshall, Amal El-Mohtar, Molly Tanzer, Kelly Link, C.S.E Cooney and the incomparable K.J Bishop, just for a beginning.
I spent last week curled up with The Long Delirious Burning Blue....well actually 2 days as I was unable to put it down. I was fortunate to find it on Amazon. What can I say, my emotions were all over the place, so very very powerful!
The chair of my PhD dissertation teaches at Pacifica and Saybrook has a lot of ties to Pacifica. I am really interested in your course there since my dissertation involves story.
Oops, I didn't notice the on-line. Of course, you live a bit far. I will look out for when you come here. Thank you Sharon for all your good work. Your work is an anchor for me. Yes, a root, that was dangling. L
If ever I do….”become so tangled up in the detail of the everyday that I forget all those old moments of grace,” thank you Sharon Blackie for writing in such a profound way to help me remember! grace can be found in words that capture mystery beauty and the art of enchantment 🙏
I picked up my deck this morning and they are absolutely gorgeous Sharon✨...I'm looking forward to catching the Imbolc Hearth, the forest was calling this morning.
Talking about selkies brought me back to the movie ,The Secret of Roan Innish, which I loved. I also agree with your recommendations , I have read Hannah Whitten’s books and Angela Slatter.
Looking forward to The Bone Cave. Even though I'm not that familiar with your work, this spoke to me in an instant. Can't wait to get a copy of the book and the card deck. ❤️
‘But all the old selves are still there, even if they’re buried under too many layers of distraction and preoccupation.’ I think that’s so true. And I think writing about them is such a powerful thing. I was just sifting through my old field diaries from almost twenty years ago last week to write a piece of autofiction, and I found it both strangely informative and therapeutic.
The new book cover is lovely — it really makes you want to read it!

Thanks for the list! I have not heard of this genre…
There doesn't have to be only one exception :-)

That's good to know, thank you. Hope to catch you on the course!
The SELF that I once was, the essence, joy unencumbered, has graced me once again after a very long and binding road into a very dry desert.
I love the title.....and you will be in my neck the woods, my delirious blue California!
Welcome Sharon and bless this place with all your grace.
Ah this is only an online course but I hope to be back in California again in early 2025. I'm glad you found that self again.
