Happy Solstice Sharon and best wishes for replenishing and enjoying your time out. Radio 4 sounds drama have The Dark is Rising available to play on their website . I liked it last winter curled up on the sofa, but the book is better.
Enjoy a break! :) I absolutely loved Neverwhere - it is one my favorite books. The dark is rising has consistently popped up and I have still not gotten to it - but for sure prioritizing it for next year
Thank you for the recommendations. I remember listening to the audiobook of The Dark is Rising with my kids. I loved the mystery and magic of this book. I never finished the series. Might have to!
Blessed Solstice! I, too, believe a writer needs an audience...and perhaps that is a subject for one of your astonishing, insightful, and gorgeously penned essays in the new year. The exchange and the value in that exchange. Your work speaks directly to me and for that, I count my presence here as a gift to myself. Thank you.
Enjoy your well-deserved computer break! It's inspiring to see your commitment to reflection and rejuvenation. Your reading and listening selections for the winter are wonderfully eclectic and seem perfect for cozy, introspective days. Looking forward to your insights and stories in 2024.
Thank you for sharing all of these wonderful books and songs. I love Emily Portman’s music. I shall also be tuning into the bbc World Service airing of ‘The Dark Is Rising’ production, which starts today, with actor Toby Jones and music by Johnny Flynn.
Blessings to you Sharon, have a beautiful break. xxxx
Blessings of the season to you, Sharon! Its a wild Solstice morning here in Ireland. Paul Lynch's Prophet Song is striking and very current in these troubled times. I loved the Susan Cooper Dark is Rising series as a child and reread it as an adult early this year, and still loved it. Enjoy your break, I look forward to seeing all the rays of light and hope that are born of this season's darkness. 💕
That is true, but the effects of celestial events can be seen for a few days either side, so there are already celebrations taking place over here! The storm seems to be fading so 🤞 for tomorrow
What a wonderful gift - a reading and musical list of favourites. Will explore both, with gratitude. All tech alight!
Thank you for the reading tips, Sharon. I will definitely read Melmoth as I am in Prague. Happy Solstice and enjoy your break 🙂
Just stumbled upon your Substack as I was looking for solstice prompts and reflections, happy Solstice!
What a delightful collection of recommendations - that Warren Zevon song leaves me in tears every. Single. Time. Such a perfect gem of a song.

Still very windy here in West Cork. 🕊️
Thank you for this! I like the idea of a computer break. I might have to make it a certain-apps-on-phone break too.
